What Stormwater Management Does

Capital Improvement Projects

The section builds projects that improve or construct drainage features, both structural and non-structural, including culverts, drains, ponds, and even wetland restoration projects.

NPDES

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit is a federal mandate that requires municipalities to monitor and improve water quality in their respective jurisdiction.

Education

The section offers several award-winning and federally recognized programs to teach people about stormwater management and pollution prevention.

Wetland Mitigation

In Hillsborough County , adversely impacted wetlands must be replaced or enhanced. Creating wetlands requires many man-hours, physical work, and an expert knowledge of natural systems.

Sediment Management Program

This is a new program from Stormwater Management, which assists citizens in restoring waterbodies damaged by the accumulation of sediment. This program is currently under development.

Master Planning

The section has spent several years studying Hillsborough County and determining problem areas, critical habitats, and projecting future needs. The result is the Watershed Master Plans, which are constantly updated to remain current through a state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS).
