| We here at Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control believe
that education is paramount in reducing the mosquito population in densely
populated areas. Several species of aggressive, nuisance and possibly
disease-transmitting mosquitoes seek out man-made containers that hold
water to lay their eggs. If homeowners will take time to eliminate potential
"mosquito nurseries" around their house and garden, our mosquito control
inspectors will have more time to spend treating ditches and other "natural"
mosquito habitats.

School Programs
As part of our ongoing outreach program we participate in several educational programs, to include SERVE in the public school system and the Great American Teach-in. Representatives from our organization give presentations to children of all ages, to teach them about mosquito biology, how mosquitoes reproduce, and how they can help keep the population down in their own home or neighborhood. When possible, we like to bring some of our equipment for show-and-tell.

Mosquito Control Badge Program
Additionally, we have implemented a Mosquito Control Patrol activity patch program for
members of the scouting community, and will be hosting Girl Scouts of Suncoast Council on June
25th for our second annual program. We are very excited about this new educational opportunity,
and have made this program available to other mosquito control organizations around the country
and even in Europe!
The Tri-County Health Department of Greenwood Village, Colorado,
has graciously given us permission to use this artwork for the activity
patch, which will have the words “Mosquito Control Patrol”
around the top, and “Fight the Bite” underneath the
circle.
