Fletcher Avenue Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Improvements (CIP # 63090)

Fletcher Avenue from Nebraska Avenue to 50th Street has been identified as having one of the highest pedestrian crash rates in unicorporated Hillsborough County. More than 1,400 pedestrians cross Fletcher each day. Between 2006 and 2010, there were 63 pedestrian accidents in this section of Fletcher reported by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department. Of the 63 crashes, 3 resulted in fatalities and 22 resulted in incapacitating injuries.

The proposed improvements include the following:

  • Resurfacing the roadway from Nebraska Avenue to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
  • Construct pedestrian refuge islands, mid-block pedestrian crossings and bicycle lanes.
  • Construct a sidewalk on the south side of Fletcher between Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and 50th Street.
