Bloomingdale Ave. & Culbreath Rd.
-
Alternative #1: This alternative considers the following geometric improvements: add an exclusive eastbound to southbound right-turn lane and add an additional westbound to southbound left-turn lane to create a dual turn lane. In addition to these geometric improvements, 4-foot wide designated bike lanes and 5-foot or 6-foot wide sidewalks are considered along both sides of Bloomingdale Avenue. Furthermore, the existing traffic signal will be upgraded to a steel pole / mast-arm configuration.
-
Alternative #2: This alternative considers the same geometric improvements as identified for Alternative #1 along with adding an exclusive northbound to westbound left-turn lane along Culbreath Road. The additional northbound left-turn lane is created through the use of the existing median plus some additional right-of-way along the east side of Culbreath Road. In addition, a 6-foot wide sidewalk along the east side of Culbreath Road is proposed.
-
Alternative #3: This alternative considers the same geometric improvements as identified for Alternative #2. The only difference is the positioning of the northbound left turn lane. This lane is created by not using the existing median and expanding to the east of Culbreath Road.
Alternative #1 does not provide an acceptable level of service in accordance with the County's Comprehensive Plan (i.e., LOS D or better). Alternatives #2 and #3 both produce identical and acceptable levels of service during the AM peak hour, but not during the PM peak hour; because of the close proximity of the signalized Lithia- Pinecrest Road and Bloomingdale Avenue.
All of the alternatives will use 12-foot wide travel and auxiliary turn lanes. Right-of- way is needed to construct these proposed improvements.
