Valrico Road & Sydney Road Intersection (CIP # 69600230)
The existing Valrico Road at Sydney Road is a four-legged intersection that lacks signalization. Both Valrico and Sydney Roads are two-lane roadways primarily serving residential uses. Due to the increase of residents and continued development into the surrounding area, the intersection is operating beyond its design capacity, resulting in significant vehicle delay due to traffic congestion and a high number of vehicle accidents.
The proposed improvements include:
Adding dedicated northbound and southbound left turn lanes from Valrico Road onto Sydney Road and extending the existing northbound right turn lane on Valrico Road. In addition, sidewalks and bicycle lanes will be added within the project limits to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists.
The design phase is expected to be completed in June 2011. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2012. The total cost of the project is approximately $1.78 million
