Before a Disaster

Do

  • Use your next yard waste collection day to get rid of unwanted items.
  • Trim trees and shrubbery regularly. Cut weak branches and thin foliage into 4-feet maximum lengths, 6-inch diameter widths. This will help decrease the chance that plants will be uprooted.
  • Place up to two cubic yards (which equals to approximately twelve 30-gallon containers) of properly cut and bundled tree trimmings at the curbside for your next regular yard waste collection day.
  • Refresh your supply of heavy-duty plastic garbage bags for household garbage.
Don’t
  • Don't trim trees once a hurricane watch or warning is announced.
  • Don't take materials to the curb or County Solid Waste Community Collection Centers during a watch or warning. (Facilities will be temporarily closed.)
  • Don't put garbage or bulky waste items at the curb in a "junk" pile. They won't be picked up that way!
