Barton (Bart) Weiss became the Administrator of the Hillsborough
County Water Resource team in May of 2002.
A registered professional geologist with the state of Florida,
he has more than 12 years of experience in the water resource industry.
He comes to Hillsborough County from the Southwest Florida Water
Management District where he was a senior project manager.
Throughout his career in water resource management, he has been
involved in policy development, rulemaking, and project management
including:
- Development of the Northern Tampa Bay Partnership Agreement
- Methodology and Policy development of the Southwest Florida
Water Management Districts Minimum Flows and Levels Rules
- Development of the Florida Department of Environmental Protections
Demineralization Discharge Rules
- The Southwest Florida Water Management Districts expert
on demineralization technologies:
- Project management of the States first large scale
Seawater Desalination facility
- Management of brackish groundwater desalination research
projects
- Management of several Aquifer Storage and Recovery projects
- Management of Northern Tampa Bays Lake Enhancement project.
His educational background includes a B. A. in History from Erskine
College, a B. S. in Geology from Texas A & M Corpus Christi,
and a Masters of Business Administration from Saint Leo University.
He also has extensive professional technical training and masters
course work in hydrogeology.
As a long-time resident of Hillsborough County with direct involvement
in water resource issues, he is dedicated to protecting the countys
natural resources while striving to meet its residents water
resource needs.
The Water Resource Team will dedicate itself to insure that
any water resource project that is built in or has a potential affect
on the citizens or the natural resources of Hillsborough county will
be designed and constructed in an environmentally safe and economically
feasible manner, said Weiss.
