Master Water Plan - Brief Explanations of Components

Tampa Bay Water's Master Water Plan includes the development of water supplies from surface, ground and baywater sources, the construction of treatment facilities, and the installation of large-diameter water transmission mains on a "fast track" schedule to meet the deadlines established in the 1998 Interlocal Agreement and Partnership Plan.

Enhanced Surface Water System

Alafia River: New surface water supply, intake structure and pump station.

Tampa Bypass Canal/Hillsborough River: new surface water supply, intake structure and pump station.

South Central Hillsborough Intertie: new 72-inch diameter transmission main connecting the Alafia Pump Station to the Regional Water Treatment Plant.

Tampa Bay Regional Reservoir: new, offstream, above-ground reservoir for storage of 15 billion gallons of water.

Tampa Bay Regional Water Treatment Plant Facilities Site: Includes a new surface water treatment plant, ground water treatment plant, and water storage, blending, and pumping facilities. Scheduled to be complete by 12/31/2002.

New Groundwater Sources

Brandon Urban Dispersed Wells: rehabilitation of existing ground water wells.
Scheduled to be complete by 11/30/2001 and produce six mgd (million gallons daily).

Cone Ranch and Dispersed Wells: proposed new well field.

Cypress Bridge II Well field: proposed new well field.

Eagles: proposed increase of an existing facility.

Morris Bridge Sink

Crystals International

Cargill Reclaimed Exchange

Desalination

Mid-Pinellas Brackish Water Desalination: a plan to obtain potable water from brackish aquifer sources in Pinellas County.

Tampa Bay Desalination (at the TECO Big Bend Facility): to be the largest facility of its kind in the United States, designed to produce an average of 25 mgd, with expansion capabilities to 35 mgd. Scheduled to be complete by 12/31/2002.

Gulf Coast Desalination: a second seawater desalination plant, to be considered for the 2000-2007 timeframe.

Pipelines
North Central Hillsborough Intertie: new 84-inch diameter transmission main that will take treated water from the Regional Water Treatment Plant up to the regional distribution system in the Morris Bridge area. The transmission main follows the Tampa Bypass Canal right-of-way, tunneling under the Hillsborough River.

Brandon/South Central Connection: 30-inch diameter transmission main connecting South Central Hillsborough Wellfield to Tampa Bay Water system. The connection will allowu p to 10 million gallons of water per day to be transferred.

Loop 72 Transmillsion Main: a 72-inch diameter pipeline proposed to run from Morris Bridge well field to Lake Park Water Treatment Plant on North Dale Mabry Highway.
