Contractor Licensing

Pursuant to State of Florida House Bill 735, local jurisdictions/counties are now prohibited from issuing local licensure. As of 7/1/2023 all local licensure will be pre-empted to the State. Hillsborough County can no longer accept applications for Local Specialty or State Registered licensure. If the work you perform is regulated by the State of Florida, you must obtain a State Certified license. Contact the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) to obtain licensure. State Certified contractors can register for permitting in HillsGovHub. Some licenses are no longer required while other must obtain licensure from the state of Florida. Refer to the License Comparison information & the Contractor Licensing Frequently Asked Questions to determine how your license is affected. State Registered license types should pursue options, including ‘grandfathering’ (Senate Bill 1966), with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR)

A Contractor License is required for regulated construction trades. More information can be found on our Contractor Licensing page. You can also look up a contractor's license using HillsGovHub.

If you have a Contractor complaint, it can be submitted online.
