Contractor Licensing

ATTENTION:
Pursuant to State of Florida House Bill 735, local jurisdictions/counties are now prohibited from issuing local licensure. As of 7/1/2021 all local licensure will be pre-empted to the State. Hillsborough County can no longer accept applications for Local Specialty or State Registered licensure. If the work you perform is regulated by the State of Florida, you must obtain a State Certified license. Contact the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) to obtain licensure. State Certified contractors can register for permitting in HillsGovHub. Some licenses are no longer required while other must obtain licensure from the state of Florida. Refer to the License Comparison information & the Contractor Licensing Frequently Asked Questions to determine how your license is affected. State Registered license types should pursue options, including ‘grandfathering’ (Senate Bill 1966), with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR)

In Hillsborough County, to perform construction-related work regulated by the State of Florida you must have a contractor license.

State Certified License Holders

To register a State Certified license, please see page 5 of the Create Contractor License Applications User Guide. There are no fees associated with registering a license in Hillsborough County.

Journeyman Electrician / Journeyman Plumber

Journeyman Certificate of Competency applications must be submitted through HillsGovHub.

Local Specialty & State Registered Licensure

Hillsborough County can no longer accept applications for Local Specialty or State Registered licensure. Contact the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) for licensure.   • Reciprocity into Hillsborough County is no longer accepted. If you are seeking reciprocation into another jurisdiction, please verify their requirements and request a Letter of Reciprocity from Hillsborough County

  1. Login HillsGovHub
  2. Select New from left side menu
  3. Select Contractor License Application
  4. Review terms & select Continue Application
  5. Select Contractor License next to the tringle to expand or type “letter” in the search box
  6. Select Letter of Reciprocity Request & select Continue Application
  7. Enter License Number
  8. Continue and complete application
