Child Care Licensing Advisory Board

This Board advises the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on recommended amendments to the Child Care Facilities Ordinance; proposes additional rules and regulations to the BOCC which effectuates the intent and purpose of the Ordinance; recommends and assists the Hillsborough County Office of Child Care Licensing in the development and implementation of training materials for child care personnel. It also advises the Hillsborough County Office of Child Care Licensing on all matters pertaining to child care facilities.

Membership:

The membership of this Board shall be appointed by the BOCC and shall be comprised of 17 members. Composition is specified as follows:

  1. A Representative of a local non-profit or governmental agency, other than a unit of County government, serving the needs of young children in child care and their parents in the County;
  2. The Director of Early Childhood Education for the Hillsborough County School System, or representative;
  3. The Director of the Hillsborough County Health Department, or representative;
  4. The President of an association whose purpose is to promote professionalism in early childhood programs, or representative;
  5. Two Operators from a licensed, private, for-profit child care facility;
  6. The president or representative of a Child Care Provider's Association;
  7. One parent from the public-at-large who has a child enrolled in a licensed family child care home;
  8. Two operators from licensed family child care homes representing all segments of the community;
  9. An operator from a licensed public/private child care facility that works primarily with migrant children;
  10. Three parents from the public who have a child enrolled in a child care facility in Hillsborough County;
  11. An operator of a religiously exempt or licensed religiously affiliated child care facility;
  12. A representative of an accrediting organization of an exempt child care facility;
  13. An operator from a licensed child care facility that serves at-risk or special needs children.

Terms:

Members shall serve three year terms.

Special Requirements:

Appointment to this Board is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
