Community Investment Tax

The Community Investment Tax (CIT) is a half-percent sales tax approved by Hillsborough County voters in September 1996. Over the past eighteen years, the Community Investment Tax has generated $1.56 billion to fund a wide range of improvements of benefit our community. The tax expires in 2027.

The CIT funds capital improvement projects throughout Hillsborough County, including the City of Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace in the following areas: education, public safety, transportation, water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater, community stadiums, parks, libraries, museums, and government facilities.
