Hydroponics Workshop Will Have You Seeing Green
Hillsborough County, Fla. (June 22, 2017) - Looking for a summer project and have a green thumb? Consider a hydroponic garden, with a jump start from the Hillsborough County Extension Service.
The Extension Service will host a workshop on do-it-yourself hydroponics on Thursday, June 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at their office, 5339 County Road 579 in Seffner. The program is geared toward both home gardeners and persons who might be interested in making some extra cash by selling fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Instead, a nutrient-rich water solution is used to feed the plants. Though it may look high-tech, the practice has been around for centuries. Hydroponic gardens can fit in small spaces - even a corner of a patio or porch will do - and can thrive almost anywhere, use water efficiently, need no herbicides, and can be grown year-round.
The workshop will cover such topics as various hydroponic setups, growing mediums, plant nutrients, irrigation systems, and more. A Spanish-speaking instructor also will be on hand.
The registration deadline is Tuesday, June 27. For more information, including pricing, call Francisco Rivera at (813) 744-5519 ext. 54119. To register, go to the DIY Hydroponics Workshop information at the UF/IFAS Extension website.
