Dogs Everywhere at County Shelter; Residents Asked to Help
Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 8, 2019) - Hillsborough County's pet shelter has too many dogs, and shelter managers are asking Hillsborough County residents to open their hearts - and homes - to help alleviate the overcrowding.
As of Friday morning, the Pet Resource Center had 255 dogs, or 104 percent of the shelter's official capacity. The dog population at PRC has remained stubbornly near or just above capacity for several weeks.
The Pet Resource Center is the county's only open admissions shelter, meaning it accepts all dogs and cats regardless of age, weight, breed or health. Fees are low, and dogs and cats are registered, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed before adoption.
The Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg, is open from 10 AM to 7 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. Adoptable pets at the shelter are also viewable online.
