Still too Many Dogs at the Shelter; Adoption Fees now Waived
Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 14, 2019) - In an effort to lower the stubbornly high population of dogs at the Hillsborough County pet shelter, all fees will be waived for ready-to-go dogs Friday through Sunday.
Adoption fees for dogs will be waived from 10 a.m. Friday, March 15 through 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Road. The shelter has been at or near capacity for dogs for several weeks; as of Thursday morning, the PRC had 276 dogs, putting the shelter at 112 percent capacity.
The Pet Resource Center is the county's only open admissions shelter, meaning it accepts all dogs and cats regardless of age, weight, breed, or health. Dogs and cats are registered, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed before adoption.
The Pet Resource Center is open from 10 AM to 7 PM Tuesday through Sunday. Adoptable pets at the shelter are also viewable on the Adopt a Dog or Cat page.
