2020 Census Expected to Confirm Hillsborough County's Fast-Growth
Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 28, 2019) - Florida's fourth largest County is already bigger than 10 U.S. states, and during the 2020 Census, Hillsborough is poised to potentially be counted as home to 1.5 million residents.
Florida is among the fastest growing states in the nation. With a population expanding at a rate of about 13.3 percent since 2010, the Sunshine State is expected to surpass New York to become the third largest state in the country based on the outcome of the 2020 Census.
Next year's Census will be the first to use new online and tablet technology to help get the most accurate count possible. The information gathered by the Census Bureau helps to determine reapportionment of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as state and local governments.
In order to make sure every Hillsborough County resident is counted next year, a local Complete Count Committee is being formed to help the Census Bureau raise awareness. Board of County Commissioners Chairman Lesley "Les" Miller, Jr. will serve as the chairman for Hillsborough County's committee.
During a news conference scheduled for Monday, April 1, Commissioner Miller will discuss how the Complete Count Committee will operate to help make sure Hillsborough County has the most accurate count possible. He will be joined by a representative from the Census Bureau.
