June Extension Calendar Includes Several Professional Certification Classes

Hillsborough County, Fla. (June 7, 2019) - Hillsborough County Extension Service, in partnership with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, offers a wide variety of interesting educational classes, seminars, and workshops on such topics as parenting, youth development, gardening, nutrition, money management, agriculture, and professional certifications reviews and exams.

Hydroponics 101

Hydroponic gardens can fit in small spaces, thrive almost anywhere, use water efficiently, need no herbicides, and can be grown year-round. This class will introduce the basics of how plants can be grown in a nutrient-rich water solution, integrated pest management practices, and what a hydroponics set-up looks like. Exam Review Classes for Private Agricultural Applicator and CORE Standards

A license is necessary for persons who apply or supervise the application of restricted use pesticides for agricultural production such as nursery, greenhouse, farm, or grove. Worker Protection Standard: Train the Trainer

The Worker Protection Standard (WPS) is a federal program designed to protect agricultural farm workers in the production of agricultural plants. A person is qualified to teach WPS to farm workers if he/she holds a restricted use pesticide license or if he/she has completed the WPS Train the Trainer course. CEUs are available. The University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences is partnering with the Florida Turfgrass Association to present this full day of education that will be simulcast to locations around Florida. The class has been designed to award up to six CEUs to attendees in some of the most difficult to attain subject areas, including aquatic weed control and natural areas.

Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance and Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide License Exam Review and Exam Session

This class provides six hours of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services-approved training and exam session necessary to obtain the Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Certification, and provides a review and exam session for the Limited Lawn and Ornamental Certification. A voucher number is required to take the exams.
