No Adoption Fees at Hillsborough Shelter Next Week
Hillsborough County, Fla. (June 28, 2019) - The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is waiving fees next week on adult dogs and cats in an effort to reduce overcrowding.
PRC has eliminated adoption fees for dogs and cats one year or older from July 2-7. All adoptions also will include a free ID tag and three-month supply of flea-prevention. Adoptions, including dogs and cats less than a year old, will be free for first responders and active-duty or retired military.
The pet shelter's population historically increases during the summer, partly because of the beginning of kitten season, but the shelter is housing an unusually large number of dogs and cats this year. As of Friday, June 28, PRC's population stood at 112 percent of capacity for dogs, 142 percent for cats.
All pets adopted from PRC are vaccinated, registered, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.
PRC will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. except on Thursday, July 4, when the shelter will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
PRC is the only open-admission shelter in Hillsborough County, meaning it accepts all dogs and cats regardless of size, age, breed, or medical condition, whether the shelter has available space or not. The shelter is at 440 N. Falkenburg Road. Adoptable pets at the shelter are also viewable online.
