Community Invited to Open House on Thonotosassa Road Closure

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2019) - Hillsborough County is hosting a community meeting on Monday, Dec. 16, to discuss a temporary road closure and detour of Thonotosassa Road between Cooper Road and North Forbes Road to perform necessary stormwater repairs.

The proposed road closure is part of the Thonotosassa Road Culvert Replacement Project, which includes replacing the existing culverts over Campbell Branch Canal. Due to lack of available right-of-way to construct temporary pavement for a bypass detour route, it is necessary to close the road for 120 days to allow for the complete replacement of the four 7-foot by 5-foot box culverts. The road closures are anticipated to begin in early January 2020 and end in late May 2020.

Attendees can review, ask questions and provide comments on the recommended road closures on Thonotosassa Road and proposed detour. The meeting will have an open-house format, with project displays available for viewing.

Temporary road closures of more than 30 consecutive days for public construction projects require approval from the Board of County Commissioners.
