Hillsborough County Reopens Recreation Centers
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2020) – In the ongoing effort to carefully and methodically restore services to residents, Hillsborough County is slowly reopening recreation centers and limited programming at its parks on Monday, Oct. 12. For recreation center hours and available programming schedules, visit your local recreation center.
Hillsborough County closed its recreation centers in late March because of concerns over COVID-19 coronavirus. The decision to reopen staffed recreation centers and restart recreation programming was made after consultation with health officials, emergency managers, and Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation staff.
Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation has taken numerous steps to help ensure residents’ safety. Programs will be at reduced capacity and the recreation centers will undergo additional cleaning. All staff and rec center users will have temperature checks upon arrival. Those using the recreation centers should practice social distancing and wear a face covering when that is not possible; an exemption is made for players actively participating on a playing field or court.
The reopening aligns with Hillsborough County’s overall efforts to gradually restore services based on the data and input of public health experts. The primary focus for Hillsborough County remains public safety.
