What Can Extension Do for You? Find Out This Saturday at Virtual Open House and Drive-Thru Giveaway

Hillsborough County, Fla. (April 29, 2021) - Are you bugged by beetles in your begonias? Want to learn how to manage your household budget but don't know how to start? Looking for ways to be a better parent, or concerned about water conservation? The Hillsborough County Extension Service offers something for just about everyone, and you can learn more at a virtual open house and drive-thru "goody bag" giveaway this Saturday, May 1.

In partnership with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, the Extension Service is a one-stop shop for expert advice on a wide range of topics, including lawn care and gardening, personal finance, nutrition, food preservation, youth development, small farms/alternative enterprises, commercial agriculture, parenting and family life, and much more. Extension staff and trained volunteers also teach a number of classes that are either free or offered at a nominal cost. While COVID-19 safety protocols have temporarily sidelined most in-person events, many classes are available online.

Saturday's virtual open house, scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m., will feature brief presentations by Extension staff on their areas of expertise and what their programs have to offer. Time for questions will follow.

After the online session, registered open house participants are invited to stop by the Extension Service office from noon to 2 p.m. to pick up a free goody bag filled with guides, brochures, and other information. The drive-thru event will be held in the parking lot of the office, located at 5339 County Road 579 in Seffner. One goody bag will be available per household, while supplies last.

Register here to receive the Zoom link for the open house and to be eligible to pick up your goody bag. For more information, call (813) 744-5519.
