Gold Star Families Honored at Hillsborough Memorial Day Ceremony

Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 30, 2021) -- In honor of Memorial Day, the inaugural Garden of Gold exhibit was unveiled today in a ceremony at Hillsborough County's Veterans Memorial Park. The event, which featured a flags display, paid tribute to the fallen sons and daughters of Gold Star Families.

The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, MacDill Air Force Base, the Gold Star Families, and Hillsborough County's Consumer and Veterans Services hosted the inaugural Garden of Gold ceremony.

Brigadier General Jeth Rey, who serves as the Director of Command and Control, Communications and Computer Systems, J6, for the United States Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, served as the keynote speaker and addressed the families of fallen heroes at Hillsborough County's Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. Additional speakers included representatives from the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, American Gold Star Mothers Inc. Tampa Bay Chapter, and Hillsborough County Commissioners.

The Garden of Gold exhibit and flags display will be open to public until 5 p.m. Sunday, May 30 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 31. Veterans Memorial Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission and parking.
