Hillsborough Seeks Public Input on Intersection Improvements at Balm Riverview and Rhodine Roads

Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 19, 2021) - Hillsborough County is seeking input from the public on proposed intersection improvements at Balm Riverview Road and Rhodine Road.

The purpose of this public engagement opportunity is to present the preferred intersection improvement plans to the public. Residents and people who travel through the intersection will have the opportunity to review the information and provide feedback during the two-week public comment period between July 19 and Aug. 2. Based on public comments and engineering analyses, the proposed intersection alternative design could be refined.

The proposed intersection improvements are focused on safety, with design elements intended to make the new intersection safe for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The proposal includes widening the intersection to add new turn lanes, new through lanes, and five-foot bike lanes. The redesigned intersection also would get new crosswalks. New traffic signals with left-turn arrows would be installed at all four segments to improve left-turn safety. A proposed new stormwater pond on the northwest corner of the intersection would improve drainage in the area, according to the proposed plans.

The project is designed to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by incorporating Vision Zero principles such as ADA-compliant sidewalks.

Impacts for residents and commuters in the area include phased lane closures that will cause temporary delays during the construction period. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2022. All associated work is scheduled to be complete by spring 2023.

The nearly $5 million project is being funded by the County.

Residents and commercial property owners can review the proposed changes and give feedback. Visit at any time from July 19 and Aug. 2 to learn more about the project and offer comments.

There are two proposals for how the road safety improvement project will be designed, and the public engagement portal will explain how each would work.

Public Meeting Information

In place of in-person public meetings, the County will conduct a virtual engagement to collect feedback from the public. Public comment for this project is open between July 19 and Aug. 2 at 11:59 p.m.
