Improvements at Two Hillsborough County Intersections Will Enhance Safety

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 24, 2021) - Two important intersection improvement projects getting started in Hillsborough are expected to have positive impacts on residents in the Riverview and Fishhawk areas of the County.

Construction will begin soon on intersection improvements at Big Bend Road and Summerfield Crossing Boulevard. The new intersection will be signalized, turn lanes will be resurfaced and extended, and sidewalks and crosswalks will be installed.

The new intersection will be safer for motorists as well as pedestrians and bicyclists, and the new signal will be a benefit for Hillsborough County Fire Station 3 at the southeastern corner of the intersection.

The intersection at Lithia Pinecrest Road and Fishhawk Trails Drive/Hawkpark Boulevard also has important improvements coming, including a new traffic signal, resurfacing, and new crosswalks.

Both intersection improvement projects enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by incorporating Vision Zero principles and ADA-compliant sidewalks.

Impacts for residents and commuters in the area will include utility relocations and installations in the corridor, along with normal construction noise caused by heavy equipment and excavation. Intermittent lane closures may occur throughout construction. Safe access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

Residents can visit from Monday, Aug. 23 until Sept. 5 to learn more about the safety improvements being made at both of these intersections.
