On Your Mark, Get Set, Go! Active Life Games Begin Monday
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 1, 2021) - Competition kicks off Monday, Oct. 4 for this year's Active Life Games, which helps promote physical and mental fitness through an Olympics-style competition that attracts hundreds of adults age 50 and older each year.
The first event is a 1-mile walk/run at 9 a.m. at Carrollwood Village Park, 4680 W. Village Drive, Tampa, FL 33624. Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. at the same location.
The Active Life Games, organized by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, began in the early 1980s, and this year's Active Life Games continue the tradition of offering a variety of contests for all skill and fitness levels. Events range from track and field to bag toss to pickleball to billiards, dominoes, and horseshoes. Individual competitions are held at a variety of locations throughout Hillsborough County.
This year's Games will be held Oct. 4-12 and are held in partnership with Friends of the County Parks, Tampa Parks and Recreation, and Temple Terrace Parks and Recreation.
In addition to being a lot of fun and a great way to stay in shape, the Games serve as a regional qualifier for the Florida Senior Games.
The 2020 Active Life Games were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 Active Life Games will follow CDC and County safety protocols.
