Here's Your Chance to Make an Underdog's Day at Hillsborough Shelter

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2021) - Who wouldn't want to make a dog's day? This Friday, everyone can have that chance.

As part of Subaru's Third Annual Make a Dog's Day, Subaru of North Tampa will be at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center from 1-5 p.m. with free gifts for everyone who adopts. The company also will donate to the shelter up to $100 for every shelter pet adopted this month, up to $3,100.

In addition, adoption fees will be waived Friday and Saturday for all dogs and cats adopted from the Pet Resource Center. The shelter has been severely overcrowded recently; as of mid-week, the shelter was housing more than 230 dogs and more than 120 cats, far above the facility's normal capacity.

Make a Dog's Day particularly emphasizes the importance of giving a chance to "underdog'' pets - dogs (and cats) that are hard to adopt because of their age or medical condition. These pets will provide love, affection, and joy to someone who will just give them a chance.

For those who can't adopt at this time, there are still ways to help Make a Dog's Day by fostering or donating items for pet enrichment like broth, peanut butter, soft dog treats, or dog or cat toys.

The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa FL 33619, is the only open-admissions shelter in Hillsborough County, meaning the shelter accepts all dogs and cats regardless of breed, size, or medical condition. The shelter is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Dogs and cats available for adoption are also viewable online.
