Esports Now in Lineup at Hillsborough Parks & Recreation

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2021) - At Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, they know that "recreation'' means different things to different people. That's why Northdale Recreation Center now offers esports.

Multiplayer video gaming is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, with millions of participants, a growing pool of professional gamers, and online tournaments that draw huge audiences. Hillsborough County's new esports program creates a fun, competitive gaming experience while promoting inclusion and a sense of community for participants of all ages.

At Northdale Recreation Center, participants play esports in a dedicated gaming room with six 65-inch televisions and a dozen gaming chairs. Games and controllers are provided, including popular titles like Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, Mario Kart, and others.

Games can be played with single players or teams and can include online participants from other locations and opportunities to participate in tournaments. To maintain a positive environment for players, the games' audio and chat functions are disabled. Participation is free.

The esports program is currently available at Northdale Recreation Center, with plans to soon add esports at Emanuel P. Johnson Recreation Center in Progress Village.
