Hillsborough Building New Sports Complex in Apollo Beach

Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 28, 2022) - Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation will break ground Monday on a new sports complex to serve fast-growing southern Hillsborough County.

The Waterset Sports Complex will feature four multisport athletic fields, all featuring synthetic turf. The fields will be able to accommodate a variety of different sports, including soccer, football, and lacrosse. The park will be home to one of the largest contiguous synthetic turf fields in the country.

The first phase of construction also will feature a playground, pavilions, LED lighting, a concession building with restrooms, offices, and meeting space, and parking for more than 500 vehicles. The park property is about 85 acres, with the $11 million first phase covering roughly half the site. Construction on the first phase is expected to be complete by spring 2023.

The groundbreaking event will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, at 6110 Waterset Blvd., Apollo Beach, FL 33572. The ceremony will feature Parks & Recreation leaders, Hillsborough County commissioners, and members of the Waterset community.
