Hillsborough's Adaptive Sports Wins 24 Medals, Breaks 7 National Records at Junior Nationals

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2022) - Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports won 24 medals and broke seven national records during the 2022 Move United Junior Nationals tournament.

The tournament, the largest and oldest in the country featuring adaptive sports, was held July 16-22 in Denver, Colorado. Hundreds of athletes from around the country competed in track and field, archery, para powerlifting, paratriathlon, shooting, swimming, and wheelchair tennis.

In all, Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports won 19 gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. Kira Stevens set national records in the 100, 200, and 400-meter races, and in powerlifting and archery. Danielle Kanas set national records in the shot put and discus competitions.

Other athletes earning medals in more than one sport include Emanuel Martinez and Rylan Brown, both of whom medaled in archery and swimming.

A signature program of Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, Adaptive Sports offers year-round sports and recreation programs to promote healthy lifestyles, independence, and personal growth for people with physical disabilities.
