Hillsborough Conducting Broadband Survey of Residents, Businesses
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2022) - Internet access is increasingly important to everyday life. Access to the information and services it provides fosters economic growth, job creation, education, and a better quality of life.
As part of a program to improve digital equity, Hillsborough County is conducting an assessment to determine where internet connectivity disparities exist within Hillsborough County and develop an action plan to provide increased, equitable, and effective broadband internet service coverage throughout the county.
Part of the effort includes a consumer survey and speed test, which will be available until Dec. 16, 2022. To optimize results, Hillsborough County is asking all residents and businesses to participate. The survey is available in English and Spanish. For those without digital access, paper surveys in English and Spanish will be available at local libraries.
The information residents provide by completing the survey will be incorporated into Hillsborough County's assessment and be used to expand, review, and verify existing information regarding internet transmission speeds and availability of broadband services.
The Hillsborough County broadband program supports activities and initiatives of the State of Florida Office of Broadband within the Department of Economic Opportunity. The information collected for the County's Digital Equity Action Plan will be used to leverage federal funding through the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act to bridge the digital divide in the county.
