Precautionary Boil Water Notice Issued in South-Central Hillsborough County
Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 23, 2023) – Hillsborough County Water Resources has issued a precautionary boil water notice for customers in a large area of South-Central Hillsborough County.Map of affected area. Water pressure in the Hillsborough County Utility service area outlined in this map fell below 20 psi Tuesday morning due to a power issue. The general boundary of the impacted area is all Hillsborough County Utility customers south of SR 60 and east of I-75. The low pressure impacted approximately 95,000 Hillsborough County water connections. Water service has been restored; however, customers in the impacted area are advised to boil water as a precautionary measure until a rescission notice is issued. The Hillsborough County Health Department requires a precautionary boil water notice after pressure in the lines drops below a certain level. This notice means customers are advised, as a precautionary measure, to boil all tap water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. A rolling boil of one minute is enough. Cool before using. As an alternative bottle water may be used. Allow the water to run until it is clear before washing clothes. Discard any ice from automatic ice-makers. This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. Customers will be notified in the same method as this notice when the precautionary boil water notice is rescinded.
