More Affordable Housing Coming to Ruskin

On same day, Florida Home Partnership celebrates completion of 7 homes, groundbreaking for 6 more

Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 31, 2023) - Florida Home Partnership will celebrate the completion of seven new affordable homes - and break ground for a half-dozen more - on Thursday, June 1. The project was financed in part by Hillsborough County.

The homes, all of which have three or four bedrooms, two bathrooms, metal roofs, and solar panels, are in the Sunset at Bayou Pass development in Ruskin. They are reserved for first-time homebuyers who earn less than 80 percent of the area median income and need down payment assistance.

Also at the Thursday ceremony, the nonprofit Florida Home Partnership will break ground on six homes that will be available through the USDA Mutual Self-Help Program. Participants in the program contribute a minimum of 600 hours of sweat equity in exchange for down payment assistance.

The ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at 1617 Stillwater Pond Rd., Ruskin, FL 33570. The event coincides with the beginning of National Homeownership Month.

Hillsborough County contributed $700,000 toward the projects, part of its effort to address affordable housing issues. The programs and services funded by the County focus on creating new affordable housing opportunities, training for residents to further their careers and afford home ownership, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the communities around them.

Florida Home Partnership is a nonprofit homebuilder that has helped more than 1,000 families achieve the dream of homeownership. The organization's goal is to help create a better way of life for low- to moderate-income families that will enrich local communities for generations to come.
