Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team Hosts National Tourney This Weekend
Hillsborough County, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2023) - Some of the best wheelchair football teams in the country will be in Tampa this weekend for a national tournament hosted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team.
The USA Wheelchair Football League, organized by Move United, will hold four national tournaments in 2023. The second of those tournaments will be Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10, at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin St., Tampa, FL 33602.
Eight teams will compete in two divisions. Ten games are scheduled Saturday and two Sunday morning. Those games will determine the seeding for the playoff games later Sunday morning and afternoon. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is scheduled for two games Saturday - against the Dallas Cowboys at 8 a.m. and the New Orleans Saints at 3 p.m. - and one game at 8 a.m. Sunday vs the Buffalo Bills. Playoff times and opponents on Sunday will be determined by the results of the earlier games. The games are open to the public; attendance is free.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is part of Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports, a signature program of Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation. The mission of HC Adaptive Sports is to promote health, independence, and personal growth through sports for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. More than 300 athletes participate in Hillsborough County Adaptive Sports each year.
