Hillsborough County's 2016-2017 Budget Keeps Tax Rate Steady

Transportation, public safety, and more will benefit

Hillsborough County's new budget includes more money for transportation, public safety, parks, and libraries.
The 2016-17 budget took effect Oct. 1, and lasts through September 2017. Hillsborough County's Board of County Commissioners adopted the $4.93-billion spending plan in September.
The total budget is $100 million more than the previous fiscal year, but the countywide millage rate remains the same. The additional money is available largely due to new development and because property values have increased.
The new budget includes:

  • $35 million for roadway, bridge, right-of-way, and sidewalk maintenance
  • $7.1 million for expanded services in the County's Indigent Health Care Program
  • $5.7 million for Carrollwood Village Community Park and Lucy Dell Community Pond improvements
  • $5.2 million for new C. Blythe Andrews and Riverview libraries
  • $1.3 million for a Fire Rescue roving unit pilot program
  • $350,000 for a downtown Tampa to St. Petersburg ferry pilot program

Here is a comprehensive overview of the 2016-17 fiscal year budget.
