Hillsborough Seniors SOAR to Unexplored Locales

The excursions are fun and insightful, and provide moderate exercise

The Tampa Bay area has much to offer. In the first months of the New Year, Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation is giving seniors a chance to explore interesting local places where they might not have been.

Trips are scheduled to Weeki Wachee, Egmont Key, Cockroach Bay, Weedon Island, Madeira Beach/Johns Pass, and Hillsborough County parks and preserves. The guided hikes and outdoor activities are scheduled through four Hillsborough County recreation centers: Northdale, Jackson Springs, Roy Haynes, and Westchase.

Some seniors hesitate to take excursions alone, or they don't have transportation. A few county residents, for example, never have seen Tampa Bay.

For these and other seniors, Parks & Recreation created the Seniors Outdoor Active Recreation (S.O.A.R.) program.

The excursions are tailored to the interests and abilities of regular senior attendees at the four recreation centers. Transportation is provided and space is limited. Check the centers listed below for lineups of excursions, then stop by or call to sign up.
