Fun fact:

In 1966, the University of Florida began research to develop a peach that requires less exposure to cold temperatures. Many of the current varieties first were planted in the early 2000s. Florida peaches generally are smaller and sweeter than common varieties.

Local insight:

Hillsborough County is among Florida's largest producers of peaches. The crop is growing in popularity among local growers.
