Rainy Day Fun
Stuck inside on a rainy day?
Don't let summer showers dampen your spirit. There's lots to do in Hillsborough County, even when the weather washes away your outdoor plans.
Ideas for Rainy Day Fun:
All-day rainstorms on weekends are the worst. Or are they? Movie fans can check out old and new classics on Sunday afternoons at Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St. This year's Summer Classics series runs from through Sept. 1, featuring films from The Shawshank Redemption (1994) through Casablanca (1942).
The Carrollwood Cultural Center offer events and shows throughout the summer. Check their calendars on a rainy day to see what's happening - or on a sunny day, for that matter.
The Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum at Veterans Memorial Park & Museum, 3602 U.S. 301 N., has photographs and memorabilia from U.S. wars, including a confiscated German anti-tank gun from World War II, and a replica of a bamboo cage where POWs often were housed in Vietnam. If the rain stops, peruse outdoor memorials throughout the park's campus.
Visit the Florida Aquarium, 701 Channelside Drive, to learn about the state's environment. It's a (mostly) dry way to spend a day around water. Explore the many up-close exhibits, get wet in the Splash Pad (if you wish), and discover how to protect and restore natural ecosystems.
There are many other ways to have fun and stay occupied on rainy days in Hillsborough County, such as going to the Glazer Children's Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, or a Hillsborough County public library.
The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative offers a free Discovery Pass that provides one-time admission to 10 participating museums and attractions.
