Passport in hand

Saturday List: Grocery Shop. Mow Lawn. Apply for Passport...

No appointment necessary at Jan. 5 Town 'N Country Library Passport Fair

If one of your New Year's resolutions is to get out and see the world, you'll need a passport - and the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative can help.

The Town 'N Country Regional Library, 7606 Paula Drive, Ste. 120, is hosting a Passport Fair on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extra staff will be on hand to assist first-time applicants for U.S. passports. Kids also are invited to stop by the craft table and make a passport cover to take home. No appointments are necessary.

Event organizers remind applicants that it's important to bring all of the required paperwork, including specific documentation showing identification and proof of U.S. citizenship. Fees must be in the form of checks or money orders. Complete details about what is required may be found at

The webpage also includes information for persons interested in renewing their passports, since library passport services are for new applicants, and not for renewal services.

Travelers should apply for a passport card or passport book well before their trip. It typically takes the U.S. Department of State four to six weeks to process an application.

Two other libraries also are Passport Acceptance Facilities. Staff at the Port Tampa City Library, 4902 W. Commerce St. in Tampa, and the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico, accept applications several days a week by appointment. Both locations offer Saturday hours, and evening appointments are available on Mondays at the Bloomingdale library. Reserve a time by calling (813) 273-3652.
