Summer Employment Program Connects Youth and Businesses for Paid Work Experience
Up to 650 Hillsborough County youth between the ages of 16 and 21 will score paid summer work experience in financial shared services, health care, information technology, and manufacturing through the CareerSource Tampa Bay Summer Connections program. Participating youth will earn $11 per hour and work a maximum of 24 hours per week during the six week program.
Participating private, nonprofit, and public sector employers will introduce youth to the skills and traits that improve their employability. The program also will raise awareness of career opportunities in Hillsborough County. Businesses participate at no cost since CareerSource Tampa Bay will be the employer of record and provide 100 percent of the wages for the program.
The Summer Job Connections program is being funded through $1.2 million of federal grant funds designed to help families achieve self-sufficiency, as well as up to $150,000 from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. The County funding expands the program to 100 youth whose families may not meet the federal income qualifications criteria.
