Tax free week

Save on School Supplies, Clothing, Computers during Sales Tax Holiday

The annual reprieve runs from Friday, Aug. 2, through Tuesday, Aug. 6

Hillsborough County public schools open on Monday, Aug. 12. Private schools have varied start dates, but summer vacation is winding down for everyone.

Do your kids have what they need to head back to campus? If not, take advantage of five tax-free shopping days throughout Florida. The Sales Tax Holiday begins Friday, Aug. 2, and continues through Tuesday, Aug. 6.

On these five days, select school supplies selling for $15 or less per item; clothing, shoes, and certain accessories priced at $60 or less, and personal computers and related accessories selling for $1,000 or less are tax free. That means no state or local levies are collected on eligible items.

A list of qualified items and other details are available at the Florida Revenue website.

It's also a good time to buy tax free items that you plan to donate to schools. Many retailers place donation bins in prominent locations in their stores.

The Sales Tax Holiday applies to everyone, even if purchases are not for students.
