Among the few commercial growers in Hillsborough County, Angel Red is the most popular. Dozens of varieties are being tested at Florida Gulf Coast Research & Education Center in Balm.

Pomegranates are native to Iran. Missionaries brought them to California and Mexico. The fruit's potential as a commercial crop in Florida remains largely unknown.
