Programs, Services Enhance Seniors' Lives
Hillsborough County Aging Services enhances the lives of older adults by offering a variety of programs and services.
Active seniors have the opportunity to engage with their peers at any of the seven senior centers throughout the County. Dance and fitness classes, field trips, games, and other activities help to keep mind and body active while fostering friendship, camaraderie and social engagement.
The 15 congregate dining sites offer "more than a meal" to 2,000 seniors annually. These sites also provide socialization and special on-site events for seniors. The sites also connect seniors with valuable resources to help them stay active and independent.
The County's four respite and adult day centers allow families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease and other age-related diseases to remain actively employed by providing a safe place for their loved one to spend the day. The centers provide suitable mental and physical activities, as well as socialization.
Through in-home care services such as meal delivery, assistance with daily living needs, and supplying necessary medical equipment, homebound seniors can remain independent in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of their own homes. These services help to delay the need for long-term care placement, and the interaction with service providers helps to prevent social isolation.
