County Adds Safety Features at Race Track Road, Reptron Boulevard Intersection

Traffic signals, crosswalks, medians "ease a lot of stress," neighbor says

A spate of improvements at the intersection of Race Track Road and Reptron Boulevard in northwest Hillsborough County is designed to improve safety at the busy crossroads.

Now there are overhead electric traffic signals, backed up with batteries in case of a power outage. Signage, crosswalks for pedestrians and bicyclists, and well-marked, landscaped medians round out the two-year project.

A ribbon-cutting and signal activation ceremony took place at the intersection on Feb. 12.

The roads meet just southeast of the West Hampton and South Hampton neighborhoods.

Residents are pleased with the new safety features. "This is going to ease a lot of stress for parents and families," says West Hampton resident Kevin Robb.

The work is in keeping with Hillsborough County's commitment to ensuring residents' safety. It also aligns with Vision Zero principles, an initiative to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries among all users of the roadways.
