Get Creative: Paper Plate Crafts

A unique way to create a fun chicken with your hands

Getting bored of your coloring books? Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation staff has a fun creative activity that uses your hands.

Materials Needed:

  • Construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Paper plate
  • Tempura paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers

Now that you have all your materials ready, let's get started on your chicken.

Step 1: Use markers or paint to color your plate yellow.
Step 2: Set to dry.
Step 3: Trace your hands-on separate construction paper.
Step 4: Cut out your traced hands.
Step 5: Glue them to the side of your plates (you can tape or staple if needed).
Step 6: Cut your construction paper -- 2 inches wide and 12 inches long.
Step 7: Fold the strips of paper back and forth (like an accordion).
Step 8: Glue these strips for the legs.
Step 9: Gllue the googly eyes to the paper plate.
Step 10: Cut a triangle piece from your construction paper to create the nose of your chicken.
Step 11: Glue the nose to the plate.
Step 12: Add accessories if you'd like (a bow, necktie, glasses).

Enjoy your chicken!
