R3 Program to Provide Financial Assistance for Individuals and Families
Hillsborough County is taking action to help residents who are seeking crisis intervention as they experience the economic effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Through Hillsborough's Rapid Response Recovery Program (R3), residents who lost their jobs or have suffered reduced wages can soon apply for financial assistance to help in paying housing and electric utility costs that have become burdensome as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
Hillsborough County has released the eligibility criteria and paperwork requirements for Phase II of its Utility and Housing Assistance program, which will launch on Monday, August 3. Any income-qualifying Hillsborough resident, including individuals and families in Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace, can apply for assistance. The County urges residents who need assistance to review the eligibility criteria and requirements before applying. This ensures applications submitted are complete, accurate, and can be reviewed to determine eligibility expeditiously.
Qualifying households must have income at or below 120 percent of the Area Median Income qualifications as reported on 2019 Tax Return (IRS form 1040 Adjusted Gross Income) for the year. Households applying for shelter assistance must have a current lease or mortgage obligation, and households applying for assistance with past-due electric utility bills must have a past due bill in the applicant's name.
Households will be eligible for between $1,000 and $1,800 a month in housing assistance, depending on when the applicant's loss of wages began, as well as up to $750 in electric utility help.
Housing financial assistance will be a direct payment to residents for rent or mortgage, but utility financial assistance will be paid to the electric company and will cover past-due charges. Funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
