Save Your COVID-19 Vaccination Card, Just in Case
Keeping your completed COVID-19 vaccination card in a safe place could save you time and hassle in the future.
Different states and even countries might take varying positions on whether airlines, cruise ships, concert halls, sports stadiums, and other venues can request proof you've been vaccinated. It's wise to keep the wallet-sized record, just in case.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests taking a photo of the card as a backup. You can do so with your smartphone, and even copy the image to more than one device to ensure you have it.
The cards are provided by health officials who fill them out when people get their vaccinations. It shows what brand of COVID-19 vaccine you received, and when and where the procedure took place.
There's no central U.S. database that shows you were vaccinated for COVID-19. That means keeping a record that you have received the shot(s) is advisable, even if it's never needed. "It's always good to keep the record," says Kevin Watler of the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County. "It could save you time if it's ever needed in the future."
If you lose your vaccination card or any record of it, return to the location that provided the vaccination if possible. If you do not have success at the location or if the location is no longer in operation, and you received the vaccine in Hillsborough County, contact the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County or call (813) 307-8000 and select "immunizations" option 3. Be aware it might take a while to research and process the request.
Your primary care physician's office also should be able to look up the record of your immunization.
