Healthy Avocado Dip for Football Festivities and Holiday Shindigs

Hillsborough County puts together some delicious recipes to help you stay healthy without breaking the bank

Heading to a game-day get together or holiday party but don't want to show up empty handed? Swap the standard get-together guacamole for a new avocado appetizer that is healthy and delicious. Hillsborough County Aging Services Dietician Brian Taylor walks you through how easy it is to make Avocado Dip, which is healthier than regular guacamole, as part of the Mindful Mondays Eat Well series. Ingredients and recipe below video.

Brian Taylor leads the County's Eat Well, Age Well program, which empowers senior residents to prepare simple recipes, which can lead them to create healthier meals, and improve their diet and overall health and well-being. However, Taylor says it's never too early or late to improve your diet.

People of all ages should focus on eating well balanced meals to improve physical and mental health. Brian Taylor and Aging Services have teamed up with Hillsborough County's Mindful Mondays to show residents some easy and delicious recipes. For more information, click here.



  • 2 medium avocados, chopped
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from 1 lime)
  • 1 medium jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Tortilla chips, bell pepper strips, celery sticks, and small carrots


Combine avocados, sour cream, mayonnaise, fresh lime juice, jalapeño, and salt in a food processor until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.

Transfer to a serving bowl; stir in cilantro.

Serve with baked tortilla chips and vegetables.
