Hillsborough County is home to over 175 parks, a dozen recreation centers, 700 miles of trails, 61,000 acres of preserved land, and original art exhibited throughout the county. There are skate parks and dog parks, and even a drone park. The County's Parks & Recreation department also offers hundreds of events and programs such as summer camp, adult and senior classes, and youth and adult sports leagues.

In fact, its Parks & Recreation department is one of only four national finalists in the Class 1 category for the 2023 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Class 1 includes the nation's largest parks and recreation departments, serving populations of more than 400,000.
