An arial shot of the Alafia River

Alafia River Expected to Crest Again

For residents who live along the Alafia River at Lithia Pinecrest, rising water is expected on Friday, Sept. 1

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Ruskin, rising water is expected to begin the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 1, reach its peak the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 2, and may remain high until the morning hours of Monday, Sept. 4. Due to the river cresting, residents who live along the Alafia River at Lithia Pinecrest may experience delayed flooding.

Currently, the water is not anticipated to reach roads or impact homes.

The river is expected to rise on Friday because of normal to above-normal water levels due to Hurricane Idalia rainfall, seasonal precipitation, and a tide that will peak in the late afternoon on Saturday.

Hillsborough County Emergency Management will monitor the situation closely and update Alafia River cresting predictions.
