Get your pet registration tags online, a veterinarian, at the Pet Resource Center, or by mail

If your dog, cat, or ferret is four months of age or older and lives with you in Hillsborough County, you need to get a pet registration tag for them.

You have the option to register for a tag that is valid for up to 3 years.

Ways to get a tag

  • Purchase or renew your tag online
  • From a veterinarian - All veterinary clinics in Hillsborough County are required to make the County tag available at their location
  • In person at the Pet Resource Center. Visit the PRC at 440 N. Falkenburg Road in Tampa with your up-to-date rabies certificate
  • By mail. Mail in a copy of the rabies certificate your vet gives you along with a check (no cash please) made payable to BOCC to:

Service dog fee exemption

Residents with service dogs can request registration tag fees to be waived. Residents requesting waived registration fees must fill out the Request for Waiver form and mail or drop off to , along with a copy of the service dog's current, official rabies certificate signed by a Florida veterinarian. Renewing your pet registration tag

You must renew your pet's registration tag before its expiration to ensure records are up to date. To renew you will need the original tag receipt and/or pet's rabies certificate. See the Pet Resources Fees for the cost of tags.

You can renew your pet's tag three ways:

  1. Renew online
  2. In person at the PRC - Appointments are strongly encouraged and are available from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday. Priority will be given to those with appointments, but walk-up customers will be seen between scheduled appointments.
  3. By mail. Send copies of documents and a check payable to BOCC to the Pet Resource Center at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619. PRC will mail your new tag back to your home address once processed.

Updating pet registration tag information

You can update address, phone number or other information for your pet tag by doing one of the following:

  • Call Pet Resource Center at (813) 301-PETS (7387) between Monday and Friday 8 AM to 5 PM. Appointments are strongly encouraged and are available from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday. Priority will be given to those with appointments, but walk-up customers will be seen between scheduled appointments.
  • Submit a request through At Your Service that includes your pet's tag information and updated information

Replacing a lost tag

You can replace a lost, active tag through PRC. To replace you will need the original tag receipt and/or pet's rabies certificate. The replacement fee is $5.

You can replace your pet's tag two ways:

  1. Appointments are strongly encouraged and are available from 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday. Priority will be given to those with appointments, but walk-up customers will be seen between scheduled appointments. If there is an urgent need, please call (813) 301-PETS (7387).
  2. By mail. Send copies of documents and a check payable to BOCC to the Pet Resource Center at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619. PRC will mail your new tag back to your home address once processed.
